about

Avi Subban is the epitome of innovation and creativity in South African electronic music, he represents a bold refreshing twist on the standards we all have become used to in house and techno. Unafraid to break apart musical structures and carve his own unique sound, drenched in a wide spectrum of emotions and styles, Avi Subban delivers his Debut Ep on Suid Tronica titled “Black Roses”

The central theme that encompasses this Ep and the initial idea, is around the concept of Death, and that uncertainty of the After-Life, these moods carry across each song, Avi has a special ability to take conflicting feelings or moods into his compositions, and pair them so effortlessly into an amalgamation of something truly unique.

Eternal sets a dark ominous tone, the tension and rhythm evolves into a very complex melody thats breaks out from the dark shades with this super bouncy 808 sub baseline pulsating throughout the track, creating this fun yet airy atmosphere. What sounds like a vocoder speaking and simmering underneath the song transports the listener into another realm of existence.

There, an unafraid, bold yet melancholic Free Falling gives expression to feeling of falling through life to an eventual departure.

Black Roses, Already a South African anthem has been incredibly well received on the dance floor. The song packs a serious punch with a perfect sprinkle of naughty and nice matched with that compelling “Subban” baseline, spooky melodies that speak beautifully to one another and spiral in a rather unusual format, creating this kind of heavy hearted playfulness in its mood. A similar feeling you hear in 13 Planes, which explores the 13 planes of existence.
